Gralyn Estate

Gralyn Estate Winery is our favourite margaret river wineries

This will forever be our favourite winery in the Margaret River region.

The wine here is delicious, but it also has a lot of nostalgia for us as it’s the first winery that got us liking reds. We also felt welcome here as a young couple who had no idea what they were talking about when it came to wines.

When we first started visiting Margaret River wineries, a lot of them felt too posh and fancy for us. Tiff gets anxious in these kind of environments and at a few of the wineries like this we would end up leaving before even trying anything.

Gralyns was the exact opposite, a small cellar door with windows looking out over the vineyard. The staff here are so welcoming and friendly and we didn’t get any of those judgey vibes.

When you go, make sure to try their Racy Red!

Windows Estate

Windows Estate is one the best small margaret river wineries

We fell in love with the artwork on their bottles and then fell in love with their wine and the way they farm.

A small family run winery that farms consciously producing beautiful organic wines. We especially love that they named different vineyards on the land after their children.

An added bonus to this winery is the giant chess set out the front. Do a little wine tasting and then see who can win at a game of chess!

Aravina Estate

One of the best margaret river wineries is Aravina. Pizza, games and cocktails!

We love coming here with the nephews. They do wood-fired pizza that you can eat on the grass and have a playground for the kiddies.

If you are here in summer, there is often live music to enjoy whilst sipping on some wine out in the gardens. The wine is amazing but a bit expensive for us; we have only bought a bottle once, and that was for a special occasion.

They now have a brewery onsite as well! The beer is alright but nothing super fancy. We did, however, really enjoy the Pilsner. They offer fine dining in the restaurant but as we always come with energetic children, we haven’t tried it.

Wander around the cellar door though and you will find a cool display of vintage cars and surf boards to look at. Aravina truly does have something for everyone.

Flametree Wines

Flametree is a great margaret river wineries

A newly found favourite of ours is Flametree Wines.

Located closer to Busselton than the above mentioned wineries, we stumbled across this one on the way back from Dunsborough. They have a beautiful cellar door with a fireplace and lofty high ceilings.

We enjoyed a wine tasting here, chatting to the friendly staff on Wednesday afternoon before picking up our nephews from school. Yes, we are the cool Aunty and uncle! (Cheese board? Food? https://www.flametreewines.com/Visit/Forage-at-Flametree)

Lenton Brae

Lenton Brae. One of the best Margaret River Wineries. Perfect place for the family with something for everyone

A great place to spend a chill afternoon. We enjoyed the wine tasting here, but what we really loved was the cheese boards.

They have a little make your own cheese board shop in the winery! Filled with gourmet cheeses, condiments, meats, breads and crackers from around the region. You get to pick your own selection and take it to the shaded outside table to enjoy with a bottle of wine.

They have plenty of games here too, making it a great spot for family and friends alike.

Our absolute favourite Margaret River Wineries

All of these five have a completely different atmosphere. We made sure to include some that do food as well as that’s always a bonus when you can do a wine tasting and get lunch or a grazing board. We also forgot to mention that Lenton Brae is dog friendly! There really is something for every type of family here in Margaret River.

Enjoy your time wine tasting and make sure to always have a skipper (designated driver) to get you all home safely afterwards.
